How To Express Yourself Through Different Creative Mediums

Creativity has always been my favorite medium to express myself. I was otherwise always a silent voice; avoiding people, events, crowds, and any opportunities that would make me speak up. But I had a heart full of emotions inside me, and I wanted to release them fully and to let go the pain forever, but I wasn’t sure how? That’s when I found the language of creativity to express myself, and my core feelings. I finally decided to use the creative voice to share myself in bits and parts, and to get myself out of this feeling of estrangement, timid, and the hesitation of sharing my unspoken words and feelings- that had kept me enslaved to society’s approvals and acceptance.

Our emotions always try to look for a medium to be expressed openly and fully; but we try to repress them in order to fit it, to be loved and accepted, and most of the times, we hide our emotions out of fear and insecurity. We silence the pain, and bottle up some of our most powerful feelings like; anger, fear, and anxiety. But we must have a support to channelize and process our emotions in a healthy way. What do you do if you don’t find a healthy ‘medium’ to communicate your painful emotions? You repress it, hide it from everybody, and from own selves in order to avoid confrontation and anxiety. But this denial creates more toxicity in our mind, body, and heart; leading to chronic health problems.

My first creative medium of expressing myself is through words.

Do you know how important words are in our life, to communicate, to express, to share our feelings and emotions, and to create? Using the right set of words can transform yours’ and others’  life.” Choosing right words can also help you shape your identity, can build your self-confidence, and can alleviate your fear of public speaking.

I found this beautiful quote that I want to share here!

“No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world.”~ Robin Williams.

I pause here to recall my progress of becoming good at writing and speaking [to people directly and speaking confidently in front of the camera] using some ‘powerful words’ that describe my strengths, and my purpose. But I still struggle to channelize my emotions and or to express myself; therefore I write, delve into the world of books to find the voice inside me, or to find solace, and solution.

Books are my happy place, my sunshine in the midst of the storm. They have opened up a new world for me. When life gets hard and I’m left with the only option of staying strong, books give me the courage to find hope and light. Words give me the warmth, and takes care of the emotional residues. It is so important to feel the pain, and then kick it out of your mind and heart by sharing and talking about it. And that is why I started writing. When I find myself stuck with difficult emotions, I prefer writing them down in order to maneuver my mind from those tough disturbing feelings, and to take the energy away from my pain and sufferings.

When we’re able to use a medium [especially through creativity] to say what we want to say, and make others understand, we are also encouraging people to find their voice and to share their stories with the world. We are creating meaning and giving hope to everyone who feels, they will never heal, and their life will never get better.

Through my writing, I give my internal world a voice. I got to look at my emotional fears, hurts, pains, and bruises from a distance to understand the reasons why they occur frequently in my life, to detach myself from them to heal from deep within. I know its not always easy to look for motivation in books to feel better, but some part of me knew that it was the only way to free myself.

Using art to express myself

I still remember the things I used to draw as a child! In fact I was always so inclined towards expressing my favorite things through art. Creativity was my passion. Now, when I look back to understand the meaning, I see why art was my favorite medium to make me feel alive and free.

Anybody who is suffering from those unspoken emotions can relate to this to understand; how important it is to choose one of those mediums, where we can share ourselves just by ‘being us’! Self-expressing through creativity felt easy for me as I was born with some creative gifts. It was easy for me to connect with others through this medium.

Now I draw doodles, and patterns with or without inspiring quotes. I’m happy to know that I’ve created a powerful way to look at things differently, and I’m helping others to tap into their creative genius and to CREATE. Create things that others can’t see, create things that don’t exist, and to create, to instill hope in many to make them believe that things will change eventually! The universe will function according to its timeline, and we must be patient enough to wait for the good to unfold.

Art is powerful and empowering, just like words.

If you cannot write, art it out! Do anything creative but try to shake off your negative energy. Get rid of the negative feelings attached to you by giving them a voice, and by sharing with others. Don’t give power to your pain and allow it to hurt you.

Art and coloring is also a therapy most people use to calm themselves down! It always helps me to center my focus and restore my sanity – [The google definition is- “Sanity is the state of having a sound mind and good reasoning. An example of sanity is good mental health with a state of calmness and reason..].

Using fashion to express myself.

I also choose fashion [as a medium] to express myself better that reflects my style, my choices, my freedom of expression, and helps me in building my self-confidence, my mood, and my identity. “Clothing helps you to better express yourself, even without having you to speak.” We are often judged by what we wear, and that’s why it is so important for me to feel this freedom of choice, and express myself through fashion.

Creating your personal style is a process that allows you to tap into your creativity and helps you learn about your self-awareness. Be it particular colors, or type of clothing, or anything else that adds value to your personality and spirit, we must incorporate them into our wardrobe for creating our unique style and statement.

So the whole idea behind expressing myself through fashion is that, “when I participate in creating unique fashion statements for myself [either by sticking to what feels perfect and comfortable for me, or by combining different fashion pieces together], I feel like, I kind of give hope and inspiration to many women who might be struggling [like I was!] to find a style that works for them! When we participate in developing the courage to self-express ourselves through a medium [be it creative or not], we support independence, and the freedom for women, and having the right to be different.

I found my creative voice to mindfully deal with my difficult emotions, and negative feelings. I know I can’t avoid them, or run away from those difficult unsettling feelings that show up in my life; but I must remember to trust myself and stay brave in every situation to handle life’s challenges- and creativity [my creative voice/ creative medium] is my best solution.

I believe it is absolutely okay to not know what your #future holds. When I realign my focus to just be in the 'present', I feel brave enough to wipe off any troubling feelings of alarmed dismay and despair. It is always important to look ahead in life, to keep our eyes on the path, and to not worry about what if? Braving the wilderness of #possibilities is a daunting process, but nobody ever said that chasing dream would be easy? I've promised myself to not worry about my future, rather to make my present the most rewarding for myself; and saying that requires more patience, more perseverance and more hardwork to do what it takes to make it happen!
